We’re motivated to keep doing things that reward us and make us feel good. When we’re doing really hard things, it can feel deflating to try over and over again but not get the results you’re looking for. To hack the system, we like to use a strategy that turns the tables and rewards the opposite outcome of what we’re really going for.
Here’s a few ideas to get started:
- For Interviews | If you’re hoping to land an interview, set a goal of not getting invited to at least 10 interviews. This can help encourage you to keep going even after a few rejections.
- For Getting Ghosted | Treat yourself to something after you’ve been “ghosted” by 10 cold networking outreaches. This gives you a reason to keep trying to connect with others.
- For hearing No in general | Count and celebrate hearing “No” when you’re asking for support. So many of us are afraid of rejection that we don’t take chances as often as we should. Celebrate collecting your No’s to help mitigate the fear over time.
There's no right or wrong way to approach this, so simply pick something that is draining your motivation and use that to inspire the strategy.
